The public consultation period for the Draft Brownfield Skills Strategy, which makes 25 recommendations, closed on 11 June 2008. It is expected that the final strategy will be published in 2009.
The strategy sets out for consultation an ambitious framework for action to address skills shortages that impact upon the ability to reuse brownfield land.
Employers, community groups, individuals, professional bodies, providers of learning opportunities at all levels and government agencies all have a vital role to play in tackling these skills shortages.
The draft strategy has four objectives:
Changing attitudes towards skills
Encouraging cross-disciplinary working
Raising the profile of brownfield careers
Promoting a common framework for skills development
