Students keen to forge a future in regeneration are being invited to kick-start their career by submitting a bright idea to improve communities. While Future Vision 08 is open to all UK undergraduate and postgraduates, it is targeted at people undertaking courses in:
Regeneration Planning Housing Architecture Landscape architecture Design Geography
Now in its second year, Future Vision encourages students to ‘see things differently’ and submit ideas that have the potential to improve communities.
The award categories for Future Vision 08 are:
Future Building – new designs that improve the way buildings serve the community Future People – innovative projects or services that include people from all walks of life Future Space – new ways to maximise the use of space in communities Future Streets – plans for streets that enhance the lives of residents Future Work – ideas for schemes that improve the way a community works or is run More about the categories and awards at www.futurevisionaward.com
Winners will each receive £1,000 and an all expenses paid work placement with a leading organisation from the sustainable communities sector.
The winners will be announced at the ASC’s annual awards ceremony at the Roundhouse in London on 5 June 2008.
Gethin Owens, overall winner of Future Vision 07, said: “Entering Future Vision has really helped launch my career in sustainable communities. I’ve patented my idea, I’m working with ASC to consider the possibility of implementing my virtual landscapes into real communities and, as a direct result of the exposure I’ve received since winning the award, I’ve secured a permanent job. ”
Gill Taylor, ASC Chief Executive, said: “We look forward to receiving more innovative ideas from the next generation of professionals. In order to tackle skills shortages in the sustainable communities sector, it’s crucial that we nurture young talent through schemes such as Future Vision. ”
