What does the course cover?
The Government's economic, social and environmental policies about sustainable communities
The role of - and interaction between - core and associated occupations
The core skills required for people to deliver sustainable communities (such as visioning, leadership, community engagement and communication)
The importance of community engagement in shaping strong neighbourhoods
Students will:
Review the current community situation
Prioritise issues
Envisage future options
Explore and develop relevant sustainability indicators
Develop a plan for community development
The students use YourScope - a tool for modelling and planning a sustainable community. YourScope allows people to:
See how sustainable a community is right now
Review how sustainable the community was in the past and,
Imagine how the community may be in future
Who is the course aimed at?
The course is designed for learners at a range of levels, from introductory higher education courses to professional development. It can also be used with community-based groups in which professionals and community members work alongside one another.
No prior subject knowledge is required.
